Ted Kennedy is a former professional hockey player who played fourteen professional seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Kennedy was captain of the Maple Leafs between 1948 and 1955, as well as for one season in 1957. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966, Kennedy is a five-time Stanley Cup champion, winning the championship with the Maple Leafs in 1945, 1947, 1948, 1949, and 1951. His last three championships were as captain of the Maple Leafs.

Career[]

Born in Port Colborne, Ontario, Kennedy played fourteen years in the NHL, all of which were with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He won the Hart Memorial Trophy in 1955 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966. In 1998, he was ranked number 57 on The Hockey News' list of the 100 Greatest Hockey Players. In 1951, as Captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Kennedy greeted the future Queen Elizabeth II when She visited Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. He won the Stanley Cup championship five times during his career, winning in 1945, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1951. The last 3 Stanley Cups as came as captain of the Maple Leafs.

1n 1957–1958, he was the second coach of the Peterborough Petes OHA "Junior A" team. Like his predecessor, Calum MacKay, Kennedy lasted just one season. He was replaced by Scotty Bowman, and returned to Port Colborne to raise thoroughbred horses.
